Developing renewable energy is an inevitable trend worldwide. This paper reviewed research on
renewable energy in the world, such as the characteristics of renewable energy and the impact of
renewable energy on economic development and environmental protection. Popular barriers to
renewable energy development are investment costs, support policies, technical challenges, and
financial resources. The paper also evaluated the current renewable energy development in
Vietnam and proposed some development directions for the future
